How to guide for moving house in Croydon
Sort out your Council Tax
If you are moving within Croydon, moving out of Croydon, or moving into Croydon, you will need to ensure you receive the correct council tax bill.
The easier way to do this is online via the Croydon Council website >>.
You’ll need to tell them:
• Your old or current address
• Your new address
• Your moving date
If you are moving out of Croydon they will send out your final council tax bill to your new address.
If can take up to 10 working days to process your form, and you can tell them whether before or after you move.
When you move house you also need to update your registration to vote with your new address. This can be done online via the ‘Register to vote’ service on the Government website.
To update your address you’ll need to register again with your new details (even if you’re already registered to vote).

Apply for Resident Parking
If your new house in Croydon is situated on a street with restricted parking, then you may need to apply for a resident permit. To apply for a resident permit your must be:
• a permanent resident as an address within Croydon.
• on the electoral register or Council Tax record.
There are several different residents permits you can apply for:
• Annual Permit
A resident permit will let you park in any parking bays where restrictions normally apply, apart from in disabled bays reserved for Blue Badge holders.
• Housing Estate – Annual Permit
If you’re a permanent resident in a council-owned housing estate, you can apply for a council housing estates permit. This will allow you to park your car within the estate’s car park or on roads only. However, it will not allow you to park your car on other streets in your area that are covered by normal parking restrictions.
• One Month Permit
You can also get a one month permit, which will let you park in any bay within the selected zone, except disabled bays. This permit is only valid for residents and is non-transferable.
• Resident Visitor Permit
Visitor permits allow residents’ visitors to park in ‘resident permit holder’ parking bays in the controlled parking zones (CPZs). You can apply for a visitor permit without owning a vehicle yourself.
Visitor permits are paperless. You just need to register online to be able to purchase virtual visitor permits and then you can create parking permits for your visitors when they arrive on a pay-as-you-go basis.
